Custom-Imaged, Easy To Read Nameplates

We start with a matte black anodized nameplate. Using an industrial laser we image any plant name or additional information according to your specifications. The image is bright white and on the black surface is a high contrast image. This makes them reader-friendly for both convenient and attractive plant identification.

Ample Space For Your Complete Information

Four standard size nameplates assure lots of room for the information you need to present.

Vandal-Resistant Features

Unfortunately, vandalism affects us all. Whether it is an accident caused by curious visitors or a malicious act of destruction, it takes time, money and stress to recover from any form of vandalism. Lark Label has developed a couple products and unique features to reduce the damage caused by vandals.

The Stake Anchor, added to the classic stake, makes pulling the marker out of the ground nearly impossible! The stake easily slides into the soil; however, if someone tries to pull out the stake, the anchor deploys to resist removal. Of course, a person who is determined to pull out the stake will eventually succeed, but the anchor successfully discourages any grab-and-run attempts.

Security Screws – although our standard screws for Tree Markers are Phillips head, we can supply security screws if your nameplates are installed in a public park, college campus or other suspicious place.

LARK LABEL QUALITY

Let’s talk Quality. It is a subjective term, for instance cars have 4 wheels, drive 50mph and hopefully have a working heater and radio. Yet most folks will tell you there is a quality difference between a Rolls Royce, a Volvo and a Kia car.

As a label buyer, you look at many things before purchasing. These should include how the label looks, will they last in your garden, ease of ordering, guarantee, price ….

Here is how we make Lark labels so you can make an informed quality decision.

Real simply, all of our products are made from Black Anodized Aluminum. Your information is etched into the nameplate with an industrial laser. The Classic Marker uses double faced tape to join the nameplate and stake together. The Hang Around uses a UV resistant zip tie. The Tree Marker uses your choice of heavy duty screws or aluminum nails. Need more details? Keep reading.

Lark Labels are easy to read. This is because of the high contrast between the black surface and the white letters. This is made possible by black anodizing the aluminum. Aluminum is used in space ships, fighter planes and construction. The reason we use it is that it is essentially inert in the garden, it will not rust or corrode. We use an alloy chosen for its ability to anodize and machine.

Anodizing is a term you may have heard but are not familiar with. It is an electro- chemical process that forms a protective aluminum oxide surface on the surface of the aluminum. Unlike paint though, it is not a coating therefore it will not flake or peel. Normally anodize is clear but during the process we add black dye. It is absorbed into the pores which are then sealed closed. A good anodize job will not fade. We are so confident in ours that we guarantee Lark Labels readable for the life of the plant or 10 years, whichever comes first.

The nameplate then goes to the laser to etch your information into the anodized surface. Lasers are a powerful beam of light that is pulsed on and off several thousand times per second. The laser beam is moved around the nameplate using a computer to control it. The black dye absorbs the heat where the laser beam touches and vaporizes. It’s a combination of the heat and the pulsing that causes the letters and graphics to turn white. Unlike Photometal (another common garden marker), there are no chemicals used in the laser process.

One concern our clients have is whether the double face tape (used on our Classic Markers) will stay stuck in their garden. We use 3M’s VHB tape, a double faced tape made to last under difficult conditions. Following 3M’s guidelines, we solvent clean the parts and keep them clean until they are attached. We let the adhesive achieve 98% of full cure before we package and ship them to you.
